CONCERTO DI MUSICA CLASSICA: La musica notturna; City Recital Hall, at 2 Angel Place, Sydney; Tuesday 25 March "Renowned cellist and conductor Umberto Clerici joins Omega Ensemble as guest director for a powerhouse performance featuring Italian masterworks and a celebration of the cello throughout the ages, including a world premiere work from UK composer and cellist Peter Gregson." The above is a copy and paste from the City Recital Hall site, but we are truly lucky to have so many wonderful cello players in Australia and, amongst these, the truly wonderful Umberto Clerici (accent on the "e", the third last vowel rather than the usual second last vowel: Clerici; and remember, the "ci" is like the "chi" in chimpanzee!) who originates from lovely Torino. He and the Omega Ensamble will be performing Luigi Boccherini's La Musica Notturna delle Strade di Madrid; Antonio Vivaldi's Cello Concerto in B minor, RV 424; Giovanni Sollima's Violoncelles, vibrez!; and will premiere Peter Gregson's new Commission. The only work we're familiar with - perhaps far too familiar with as there seems to be no limit to how many times it is humanly possible to listen to a piece of music! - is Sollima's Violoncelles, vibrez!, so we're truly looking forward to expanding our cello horizons. Below, a truly lovely and truly amusing interview between Umberto Clerici and Sarah Kanowski; followed by Giovanni Sollima playing his own Violoncelles, vibrez! with Mario Brunello; followed by another Sollima piece which we adore, Terra Aria, which he plays with Misha Maisky. Buon ascolto e ci vediamo martedì, 25 marzo, alle 19:00 in punto, al Sydney Recital Hall! (Marzo, 2025) |
