Our Teachers
At Italia 500 teachers are chosen not only on the basis of their knowledge of the language, but their personality, their ability to empathise with the students as learners of a second language, and their ability to motivate students.
All our teachers speak impeccable standard Italian. They have a thorough knowledge of the language and are trained to explain things simply and clearly.
At Italia 500, to add more variety to the classes and to help you develop your understanding of spoken Italian, there are generally two teachers for each course.
Our teachers are:
Giacomo Di Costanzo
Giacomo comes from a delightful island in the Bay of Naples, just north of Capri, called Ischia. Movies such as “Avanti” with Jack Lemon and Juliet Mills and “The Talented Mr.Ripley” were shot in Ischia, which is also famous in Europe for its thermal spas. Giacomo has been teaching Italian for 18 years and is the Director of Italia 500. Following studies in linguistics, he turned to full time Italian teaching in both primary and secondary schools, and adult classes, and has been teaching full time at Italia 500 for nine years. He is generally the voice on our “practice” CDs, and has a passion for collecting Illy coffee cups and vintage Italian movie posters.
Rosaria Pepe
Rosaria has been with us for many years and is undoubtedly one of our most popular teachers. Rosaria is from Napoli and reflects all the exuberance and friendliness of this fascinating city.
Paolo Marin
Paolo is also another veteran at Italia 500 and comes from near Venice. He is passionate about all things Italian and the Inter soccer team.
Alessandra Caruso
Alessandra comes form the beautiful city of Catania, in Sicily, has a background in modern languages, and adores the singer Vasco Rossi.
Laura Sapienza
Laura is our newest teacher, having recently arrived from Vicenza, the beautiful city of Palladio and home to the magnificent Teatro Olimpico. She is enamoured with Sydney's beaches and Australian wildlife.
"Italia 500 is one of the best kept secrets among those who love all things Italian. From the moment one steps into the school, one is transported to Italy and is immersed in Italian culture. At Italia 500, one learns seemingly effortlessly and progresses at an incredible speed. Giacomo, Rosaria, Alessandra are brilliant, talented teachers who understand how adults learn."
